Vitamin C — wholefood from Camu Camu and Kakadu plum
Vitamin C is water-soluble and important for collagen, the immune system, and iron absorption. At Naturshopen, we almost exclusively source wholefood options: Camu Camu from the Amazon and Kakadu plum from Australia (Smidge), as well as Jigsaw's Adrenal Cocktail which combines wholefood C with potassium and sodium.
What is Vitamin C?
Ascorbic acid is the isolated molecule. Wholefood C always comes with bioflavonoids and copper cofactors that help the body utilize the vitamin — a complete package that synthetic ascorbic acid (often made from corn syrup) lacks.
How much per day?
EFSA recommends 110 mg/day for adult men and 95 mg for women. Smokers and those experiencing stress may need more. One teaspoon of Camu Camu typically provides 750–1,200 mg of natural Vitamin C plus bioflavonoids.
Wholefood or ascorbic acid?
Wholefood C is absorbed more slowly and stays longer in the bloodstream according to several smaller studies. Ascorbic acid provides cheaper megadoses but can irritate the stomach and does not contain the synergistic compounds.
How we choose a Vitamin C product
Wholefood origin, documented C content, gentle drying (RAW/low-temperature), organic cultivation where possible, and a clean ingredient list.
Frequently asked questions
Can I take too much?
At very high doses (over 2g), the stomach may react. Wholefood doses rarely cause discomfort.
Is Vitamin C destroyed by heat?
Yes, which is why gently dried or freeze-dried powder is used. Mix into cold or lukewarm liquid.
What is Adrenal Cocktail?
Jigsaw's combination of wholefood C, potassium, and sodium — popular in RCP circles for supporting adrenal glands after stress or in the morning.
