VITAMIN D

Vitamin D — naturally from raw cold-pressed cod liver oil

Vitamin D regulates calcium absorption, immune function, and muscle function. At Naturshopen, our Vitamin D comes from raw cold-pressed cod liver oil — Rosita Extra Virgin, FIQ Cod Liver IQ and Jigsaw Alaskan Cod Liver Oil — where D and A remain in their natural proportions from the fish.

What is Vitamin D?

A hormone-like, fat-soluble vitamin. Skin produces D3 from the sun's UVB radiation, but in Sweden, the sun's angle is too low from October to March for us to produce measurable amounts.

How much per day?

The Swedish Food Agency recommends 10 µg/day (400 IU) for adults and 20 µg for people over 75 or with limited sun exposure. EFSA sets the upper limit at 100 µg (4,000 IU). One teaspoon of cod liver oil often provides 10–25 µg.

Cod liver oil or D3 drops?

Cod liver oil provides D along with Vitamin A and omega-3, which is how the body is accustomed to encountering it. Isolated D3 drops are cheaper and the dose is exact — good if you already have good A status.

How we choose a Vitamin D source

Raw cold-pressed cod liver oil, traceable wild-caught fish (Norwegian or Alaskan), third-party tested for heavy metals and peroxide value, and natural A/D balance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Winter or all year round?

In Sweden, supplements are recommended at least from October to March. Those with darker skin and those who cover their skin should take it all year round.

With or without food?

D is fat-soluble — it is best absorbed with a meal that contains fat. Cod liver oil already contains fat.

Can I measure my D status?

Yes, a blood test for 25(OH)D gives a good picture. Many labs indicate 75–125 nmol/L as optimal.
